Diabetes is a serious condition that happens when the body can’t control blood sugar levels properly. This leads to too much sugar (glucose) in the blood.
The problem occurs either because the pancreas is not making enough insulin or the body is not using insulin correctly to process sugar.
While both men and women experience similar diabetes symptoms, some warning signs are specific to women. Below are some common symptoms that women should pay attention to:
1. Yeast Infections (Oral & Vaginal)
Diabetes increases the risk of yeast infections because high blood sugar creates an environment where the Candida fungus grows easily. This can lead to itching, discomfort, and white discharge.
2. Frequent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
High blood sugar can also increase the chances of UTIs. If you often get urinary infections, it might be a sign of diabetes. Checking blood sugar levels regularly can help detect the issue early.
3. Increased Thirst and Frequent Urination
When blood sugar levels are high, the kidneys work extra hard to remove excess glucose, leading to more frequent urination. This, in turn, causes dehydration and extreme thirst.
4. Dark Patches on the Skin (Acanthosis Nigricans)
Some women with diabetes develop dark, thickened patches of skin, especially in areas with folds or creases, such as the armpits, neck, or thighs. This can be a sign of insulin resistance and high blood sugar levels.
If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s important to check your blood sugar levels and see a doctor for proper diagnosis and management.
