Embeyte Medhin Hagos, a 76-year-old woman from Ethiopia, recently had her first child after trying for many years to get pregnant without success. Reports say she chose to use in vitro fertilization (IVF) because she really wanted to be a mother, even though she was much older than most first-time moms.
Her choice was also shaped by the culture and traditions of her community. In many places, especially in Ethiopia, being a mother is very important. Women who don’t have children often feel left out or judged, which might have pushed her to keep trying to have a baby.
Some people have compared her story to the Bible story of Sarah, who also had a child when she was very old. This has made some see her pregnancy as something special or even a miracle.
Thanks to modern medical technology, like IVF, she was finally able to make her dream of becoming a mother come true.
