EFCC Re-arrests Kano TikTok Influencer,Murja Kunya over alleged Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a well-known TikTok influencer from Kano, for allegedly misusing and damaging the Naira.

Kunya was reportedly taken into custody at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano, where she is accused of spraying Naira notes for entertainment during her stay at the hotel. Her arrest comes after an extensive search, as she had previously skipped bail granted by the EFCC over a month ago.

The social media star was first arrested in January 2025 for breaking the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which forbids the misuse or defacement of the Naira. She was released on bail while awaiting her trial at the Federal High Court in Kano but failed to show up, leading the EFCC to track her down.

After weeks of investigation and monitoring, EFCC officials re-arrested Kunya on Sunday, March 16, 2025. She is now in custody at the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate, awaiting her court hearing.

The EFCC has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting the Nigerian currency and has warned against actions such as spraying, stamping, or damaging the Naira at social events.
