Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has opened up about the painful experiences she endured in her past marriage, revealing how years of abuse led her to struggle with alcoholism.
In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo monitored by Happen.ng, Adesanya shared that she suffered physical abuse for a decade at the hands of her ex-husband. She recalled terrifying moments when he even threatened her life with a knife.
Beyond the physical harm, she revealed that he also tried to derail her acting career, placing restrictions on her professional growth and opportunities.
“Anywhere my ex-husband saw me, he would beat me,” she said. “He beat me so much that I became an alcoholic. But I couldn’t leave because of the shame of people saying I couldn’t keep a man.”
