Court remands P-Square’s Jude Okoye over alleged $1M, £34K theft

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court has ordered the detention of Jude Okoye, the elder brother and former manager of Paul and Peter Okoye (formerly of P-Square), at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre. He faces charges of stealing $1,019,762.86 and £34,537.59.

Okoye will remain in custody until March 6, when his bail application will be heard.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought charges against Okoye and his company, Northside Music Limited, for stealing and fraudulently converting funds.

At the hearing, Okoye pleaded not guilty to all charges. The EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, M.K. Bashir, requested a trial date, noting the agency has 29 witnesses, with 10 available within the jurisdiction.

Defense attorney, Climate Onwuenwunor (SAN), did not object to the trial date but asked the court to consider the bail previously granted to Okoye by the Federal High Court. He also requested that Okoye remain on EFCC’s administrative bail until the hearing for the bail application.

Justice Oshodi adjourned the case for further proceedings.
