Early Signs that you will give birth to Twins

As soon as a woman becomes pregnant, her body starts changing and making new hormones. These changes can be some of the first signs that she’s expecting. If she’s pregnant with twins or more, some of these signs might be a bit different or more intense.

Some women say they had a feeling they were having twins even before they were told. Others are completely surprised when they find out.

Here are a few common early signs that might suggest a twin pregnancy:

1. Strong Morning Sickness

Many women start feeling morning sickness around the 4th week of pregnancy — right when they miss their period. No one knows exactly why this happens, but it’s believed that higher levels of a pregnancy hormone called hCG might be the cause.

Women expecting twins often say their morning sickness is worse or lasts longer than usual. If you’re still feeling sick after the first trimester (past week 14), it could be a sign you’re carrying more than one baby.

2. Feeling Very Tired

Feeling tired is one of the earliest signs of pregnancy. It can start in the first few weeks, even before you realize you’re pregnant. This exhaustion may be caused by hormone changes, poor sleep, or needing to pee more often at night.

If you’re unusually tired, it might mean your body is working even harder — possibly because it’s growing more than one baby. Try to get extra rest, take naps when possible, and make your sleeping space comfortable.

3. Ultrasound Confirmation

Although these symptoms might make you wonder if you’re having twins, the only way to know for sure is through an ultrasound.

Some doctors do an early scan between weeks 6 and 10 to check on the pregnancy. If not, you’ll likely get a full scan between weeks 18 and 22. At that point, the doctor can clearly see how many babies are in the womb.
