Former Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of financial mismanagement involving N700 billion.
Sources report that Emmanuel arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 12:30 pm on Tuesday in response to an invitation concerning accusations of money laundering, fund diversion, and theft. The allegations were raised by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NCAT), a civil society organization.
According to the petition, Emmanuel’s administration received N3 trillion from the Federation Account over eight years but allegedly left Akwa Ibom with N500 billion in debt and unfinished projects worth N300 billion. An audit of the state’s finances reportedly uncovered N700 billion in unaccounted funds, leading to the EFCC’s investigation.
