The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested a man, Anthony Chidi, at Mile 3 Market in Diobu, Port Harcourt, for illegally producing and distributing counterfeit alcoholic beverages in unsanitary conditions.
Chidi was caught operating in a filthy shop, where he washed and reused discarded bottles of popular alcohol brands, refilling them with substandard drinks and selling them to unsuspecting customers.
During the raid, NAFDAC officials discovered large piles of dirty empty bottles, ethanol, bottle caps, and packaging materials. Chidi admitted to running the illegal business for nearly a year, revealing that he sourced fake labels from Aba and purchased used bottles to make his products appear authentic.
NAFDAC has shut down the facility and confiscated all items as part of an ongoing investigation.
