Senator Natasha sues Senate president akpabio for defamation, demands 100 Billion Naira in damages

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken legal action against Senate President Godswill Akpabio for allegedly making comments about her appearance and legislative abilities.

The lawsuit, filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, also includes Akpabio’s aide, Mfon Patrick, as a defendant.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Victor Giwa, claims that a statement posted by Patrick on Facebook—suggesting the senator prioritizes makeup and revealing outfits over her legislative work—was defamatory and harmed her reputation.

She is asking the court to declare the statement defamatory, issue an order to stop further similar posts, and award her ₦100 billion in damages along with ₦300 million to cover legal expenses.

This lawsuit follows a recent disagreement in the Senate, where Akpoti-Uduaghan opposed a seat reassignment after a chamber reshuffle, leading to a confrontation with Akpabio. As a result, the Kogi senator has been referred to the Senate Disciplinary Committee for further review.
