It’s such a dark day as the Muslim community woke up to the news of the passing of a renowned Islamic scholar, Alhaji Muyideen Bello.

He will be remembered for his profound teachings of Islamic tenets and scholarship. Without a doubt, the news came as a national shock to all, with the announcement made by Alfa Aribidesi on Friday – another prominent Islamic scholar at the At-Tawheed Islamic Da’awah.

It’s hard to believe, but Alhaji Basit “Aponle Anobi” Olanrewaju—also an Islamic singer—confirmed the news of the scholar’s demise by posting an image of the 84-year-old scholar with some emotional captions.

A little about the life and achievements of the deceased: He was born in Ibadan in 1940 and spent a better part of his 84 years of life, giving Islamic lectures and teachings with a peculiar personality.

A 2018 birthday piece stated that Alhaji Muyideen Bello became a public speaker at the tender age of 10. He sought formal education as well, earning a National Certificate of Education and 

He died on Friday, December 6th, 2024, in his home in Akobo, Ibadan.

The cause of Alhaji Muyideen’s death is still unknown at the time of writing, but one thing’s sure: his passing has heralded the end of an era in the Islamic scholarly community.

The local media is already reporting on the renowned cleric’s demise, and we can expect more coverage in the coming hours. First announced by Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju, the news of the death was also confirmed by an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Taofeeq Akeugbagold, on Facebook.

As of this writing, we haven’t heard of any burial arrangements. Still, we can expect that the late Alhaji Muyideen Bello will be buried by Friday evening, per Islamic burial rites.
