Law enforcement officers in Johannesburg acted swiftly to apprehend five suspects involved in a robbery in Orange Grove. The arrests were made through a joint effort by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the South African Police Service (SAPS), and private security.
The suspects—two women and three men—were taken into custody on Sunday morning, March 2, 2025.
At approximately 6:45 AM, while refuelling at a BP filling station on Louis Botha Avenue, officers were approached by a visibly shaken man who reported being robbed by a group of five in a red Volkswagen Jetta near 7th Street and Louis Botha Avenue.
According to the victim, the suspects had stolen his money and cell phones and had even transferred funds from his bank account to their own. Acting immediately, officers accompanied him to identify the perpetrators and their vehicle.
With reinforcements called in, authorities traced the suspect’s car near Pick ‘n Pay in Bramley View. Working in coordination with private security, JMPD CCTV, Tactical Response Units (TRU), and SAPS, officers moved in and successfully arrested all five individuals inside a mall.
During the operation, all stolen items belonging to the victim were recovered.
The suspects are now in custody at Norwood SAPS, facing charges of robbery and possession of stolen property. They are expected to appear in court soon.
