Woman poisons Co-Workers drink after arguing with them over promotion

A textile worker in Goiás, Brazil, has been accused of poisoning a co-worker’s water bottle after a dispute over a promotion she believed was unfair.

The incident took place last month at a textile factory in Abadia de Goiás, near Goiânia. Security cameras allegedly captured the 38-year-old suspect tampering with her colleague’s water bottle. Shortly after drinking from it, the victim felt a burning sensation in her throat. Tests later revealed that the water contained a high concentration of a strong chemical solvent, indicating an intentional poisoning attempt.

According to witnesses, the two women were once friends, but their relationship soured after the victim received a promotion. The suspect was reportedly unhappy about this and frequently argued with her. On the day of the incident, they had another heated exchange before the poisoning took place.

Authorities also discovered that the suspect had entered a restricted management area where the company stored its chemical products, despite not having permission. Investigators believe this is how she obtained the solvent.

After realizing something was wrong, the victim called for an ambulance and was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, she recovered fully, but doctors stated that consuming a larger amount of the solvent could have been fatal.

Police arrested the suspect on February 27 after reviewing the security footage. She later confessed to contaminating her co-worker’s water bottle following their argument. She is expected to face charges of attempted aggravated homicide, which carries a prison sentence of 6 to 20 years.

This case is similar to another incident last year, where a woman poisoned a pregnant co-worker’s drink to prevent her from going on maternity leave, fearing an increased workload.
