Wilf, 93, had been battling dementia and passed away at 6:50 a.m. in a care home. Just four minutes later, at 6:54 a.m., Vera, 91, took her last breath in a nearby hospital. Their granddaughter believes Vera’s heart broke when Wilf no longer recognized her, as if she had been waiting to be reunited with him.
Their love story began when Wilf was 18 and Vera was 16, a romance that stood the test of time. They got engaged before Wilf left to serve in the Royal Air Force during World War II, and upon his return, they married and built a lifetime together.
