A 4-year-old boy, Chosen Morris, tragically lost his life after accidentally shooting himself with his parents’ gun, leaving the family devastated.
The Davenport Police Department reported that the Morris family was at home on Friday, getting ready for a pizza outing, when the accident occurred. The father, Robert Morris, was in the bathroom, and the mother, Quinta Morris, was in the bedroom. Their other children, aged 7 and 11, were in the living room. Quinta heard a “pop” but thought the children had broken something. When she went to check, she noticed Chosen was missing.
Quinta soon discovered the garage door was open and found Chosen in the driver’s seat of the car with a gunshot wound to the head. The family rushed him to the hospital, but he sadly passed away on Saturday afternoon. Investigators believe Chosen, excited about the family outing, may have gone to the car to wait for everyone.
Davenport Police Chief Steve Parker expressed his condolences, saying, “As a father and grandfather, I can’t imagine what Mr. and Mrs. Morris are going through right now. Our prayers are with the Morris family as they face this heartbreaking loss. It’s crucial for gun owners to always know where their firearms are and to secure them properly with locks or in a locked cabinet when not in use.”
