Chelsea are reportedly committed to retaining Jadon Sancho beyond his loan spell, despite his mixed performances since joining the club. The 24-year-old winger, on loan from Manchester United, has managed only two goals and six assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. While he has shown glimpses of his talent, his overall impact has been underwhelming.
As part of the loan agreement, Chelsea are obligated to make Sancho’s move permanent if they finish above 15th in the Premier League—a condition they are on track to meet under manager Enzo Maresca. However, no long-term contract was finalized before his arrival, meaning fresh negotiations will be required to secure his permanent transfer.
There had been speculation that Chelsea might reconsider signing him permanently, but journalist Ben Jacobs has clarified that backing out of the deal would come with financial repercussions. If Chelsea were to return Sancho to Manchester United, they would have to reimburse United for all wages covered during the loan, along with additional costs.
Instead, Chelsea are expected to proceed with making Sancho’s transfer permanent, with the final fee potentially reaching €30 million, depending on their league position. Jacobs noted that Chelsea remain satisfied with Sancho’s contributions so far and that it would be a “surprise” if they decided to abandon the deal.
With Chelsea pushing ahead with their plans, Sancho is likely to continue at Stamford Bridge, even though he has yet to fully meet expectations. The club appears willing to give him more time to adapt and prove his worth in their system.
