FIFA ranks Nigeria number 1 in Africa but where in the world?

FIFA has released the latest world rankings for women’s football, and Nigeria remains the top team in Africa.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are still the number one women’s football team on the continent, according to FIFA. But where do they stand globally?

In the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, announced on March 6, 2025, Nigeria holds the 36th spot worldwide. The team has kept this position since March 2024, maintaining 1,622 ranking points through updates in June, August, and December.

In Africa, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana is the second-best team, ranked 53rd globally. They are followed by Morocco (61st), Zambia (62nd), and Ghana (66th), making up the top five women’s teams on the continent.

Globally, the United States remains in first place, with Spain, the current world champions, in second. Germany, England, and Japan complete the top five, while Sweden, Canada, Brazil, North Korea, and the Netherlands round out the top ten.

FIFA also shared that this year’s rankings include a record 196 countries, with Djibouti appearing for the first time at 195th place. The rankings are based on 127 international matches played recently, including qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
