President Bola Tinubu has urged Muslims in Nigeria to use the Ramadan fasting period to pray for the country’s growth and development.
In a statement on Friday, Tinubu said this year’s Ramadan comes at a time of “renewed hope and progress” for the nation.
He said his government’s policies are starting to bring “positive results,” with the economy showing signs of improvement. According to him, the exchange rate is becoming more stable, and food prices are going down.
“This year’s Ramadan is special because it comes at a time when our country is making progress,” Tinubu said.
“Our bold policies are beginning to work, as shown by the gradual stabilisation of the economy. The GDP for the last quarter of 2024 was better than the same period in 2023.
“Prices of essential food items are reducing, giving relief to Nigerians, especially those fasting. The exchange rate is also improving, and fuel prices are dropping, bringing hope for the future.
“As the rainy season approaches, we are working hard to improve farming and increase food production. Our goal is to make Nigeria self-sufficient in food through better farming tools, support, and new ideas.
“In this holy month, I urge all Nigerians to pray and work together for the country’s progress. Let us ask for Allah’s guidance and protection and stay committed to peace, unity, and development.”
Ramadan is an important month in Islam when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. In Nigeria, the fasting period lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the moon.
A few minutes ago, Muhammad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, announced that the crescent moon has been sighted, and Ramadan fasting will begin on Saturday.
