‘French wanted Messi to win it’ – Evra claims FIFA gave the World Cup to Argentine legend

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has made a controversial statement about Lionel Messi and Argentina winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In 2022, Argentina beat France in a penalty shootout after the game ended 3-3 in regular and extra time, securing the World Cup title.

Lionel Messi, who was Argentina’s captain, scored two goals in the final, while Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick for France.

Despite Messi’s impressive performance, many people believe the World Cup was fixed in his favor.

Evra has also questioned FIFA, claiming they handed the 2022 World Cup to Messi and Argentina.

Speaking on the RMC Sport show Rothen enflame on Wednesday, he said, “Okay, we haven’t won a major tournament since 2018, but we all know that in 2022, they gave the World Cup to Messi. It was all planned. Even the French wanted Messi to win.”

Evra suggested that FIFA favored Messi and Argentina during the 2022 World Cup, making their victory seem inevitable.

He made these comments while supporting France’s manager, Didier Deschamps, who will step down after the 2026 World Cup.

Argentina will aim to defend their title in 2026, and Messi will likely play in his final World Cup tournament.
