“If you have N30-40m in Nigeria and you think you are poor, you are a mad man”-Dele Momodu tells those who spend millions to relocate abroad with their families

Renowned media personality and publisher Dele Momodu has offered bold advice to Nigerians who claim to be poor despite having millions in their bank accounts. He stated that anyone with ₦30 million to ₦40 million who still calls themselves poor is “crazy.”

During an interview with Teju Babyface, Momodu passionately argued that relocating abroad doesn’t guarantee a better life. He emphasized that with ₦30 million, anyone can build a thriving business in Nigeria. He also dismissed insecurity as an excuse, noting that Americans didn’t abandon New York after the 9/11 attacks.

“If food and security are your worries, you can even set up your own security in Nigeria. With ₦30 million, you can start a ranch with cows and everything,” he explained.

Momodu also addressed the unrealistic expectations some Nigerians have about living abroad. He cautioned that the warm welcome they receive during short trips is far from the realities of settling permanently in a foreign country.

“The moment you move your family into someone else’s home and they realize you’re staying indefinitely, things change. They may put up with you for a while, but once it becomes a long-term responsibility, the hospitality fades,” he said.

He further highlighted the financial struggles of living overseas, where there’s no room for shortcuts or using connections to reduce costs.
