Indian Teenager with rare condition sets record for hairiest face

An 18-year-old Indian teenager, Lalit Patidar, has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a Guinness World Record for having the hairiest face on a male. Lalit’s extraordinary condition, known as hypertrichosis or “werewolf syndrome,” has set him apart, with an astonishing 201.72 hairs per square centimeter covering over 95% of his face.

In a statement on its website, Guinness World Records (GWR) highlighted Lalit’s rare condition, which causes excessive hair growth. The organization noted that hypertrichosis is incredibly uncommon, with only about 50 documented cases worldwide since the Middle Ages, making Lalit “one in a billion.”

Upon learning of his record-breaking achievement, Lalit expressed his joy, saying, “I am speechless. I don’t know what to say because I’m very happy to receive this recognition.”

However, Lalit’s journey has not been without challenges. Growing up, he faced stares, ridicule, and even fear from others due to his unique appearance. “When I first started school, the other children were scared of me,” he recalled. “But once they got to know me and started talking to me, they realized I wasn’t so different from them. It was just my appearance that stood out, but inside, I’m the same as everyone else.”

While many people treat him with kindness, Lalit has encountered those who suggest he remove his facial hair. To them, he responds confidently, “I tell them I like how I am, and I don’t want to change my look.”

Lalit’s resilience and self-acceptance have been key to overcoming these challenges. Supported by his family, he has embraced his uniqueness and even shares his daily life on his YouTube channel. Recently, he traveled to Milan, Italy, to appear on the television show Lo Show dei Record, where his facial hair was officially measured to confirm his Guinness World Record.

Lalit’s story is a testament to embracing individuality and finding strength in what makes us different. As GWR aptly put it, Lalit is “one in a billion and certainly a special person.”
