A pastor identified as David E. Taylor has come under intense scrutiny after a video of him criticizing his congregation for giving low offerings went viral.
In the video, the pastor was seen addressing the congregation about a very low offering collected the previous night.
He encouraged his congregation not to give just $20 but to be obedient and give $1000 or $10,000.
He stated that the church is a multi-dollar ministry involved in global initiatives, so he needs their support.
He urged church members not to be cheapskates and to give higher offerings.
He also advised those who did not have money to take an offering envelope and write down the amount they would give once they had the funds.
“Last night, the offering was very very low. Ushers, get the offering envelopes out right now. The offering was incredibly low last night. With the amount of people, I don’t want you to cheapstake .
I don’t want you to throw a $20. Some of you can give a $1000, be obedient if you could give $10,000. Be Obedient. You all know this is a multi-dollar ministry that is doing things around the world. We need your support .
I want you to get out the biggest offering you can. If you don’t have any money don’t walk out. Fill out the offering envelope and say God when I get this amount of money I vow to give it. And we’ve seen God make even people millionaires through this ministry and billionaires.” The pastor said in the trending video.
After the video was shared online, it garnered massive reactions on social media. Many netizens labeled the pastor as fake, accusing him of using God’s name to extort money from unsuspecting church members.
Several people pointed out that the pastor seemed more interested in pressuring his members to give large sums of money as offerings rather than focusing on genuine spiritual guidance.
