Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, have been dealt a major blow as one of their key players has been injured.
Superstar striker Victor Osimhen picked up an injury just weeks before the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches next month. The Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda’s Wasps away and Zimbabwe’s Warriors at home under their new head coach, Eric Chelle.
Osimhen was substituted in the 89th minute during Galatasaray’s goalless draw with Fenerbahce on Monday night. Galatasaray’s team doctor, Yener İnce, confirmed that the substitution was due to an injury.
“We will see, it will be clear tomorrow,” the 55-year-old doctor told habersarikirmizi.com.
Osimhen, 26, is currently Nigeria’s joint-second all-time top scorer with 23 goals in 39 appearances. Only Rashidi Yekini has scored more goals for Nigeria, with 37 goals in 62 caps.
This injury comes at a crucial time for the Super Eagles as they prepare for their upcoming qualifiers.
