A tragic incident has claimed the life of a college student who collapsed during an off-campus fraternity pledging ritual.
According to Fox 8 News, 20-year-old Caleb Wilson, a student at Southern University and a member of the Human Jukebox band, was in the process of pledging to the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Early Thursday morning, Wilson suddenly collapsed while participating in a ritual where pledges were required to stand in a line. His friends quickly rushed him to the hospital after the incident occurred at a local park.
Sadly, Wilson never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. The cause of his death is still under investigation, and as of now, no charges have been filed.
Southern University released a statement acknowledging Wilson’s passing, saying:
“Southern University and A&M College is aware of an off-campus incident that may have resulted in the death of student Caleb Wilson, a junior from New Orleans majoring in mechanical engineering. The campus community extends condolences to his family, classmates, and loved ones. Southern is cooperating fully with the Baton Rouge Police Department, which is in charge of the investigation. No further information is available at this time.”
