South African man crashes SUV with intention of killing himself and his wife after she confronted him over female clothing in his car

A South African man deliberately crashed his car in an attempt to end both his life and his wife’s during a heated argument over suspected infidelity. The incident occurred on Hazelmere Road in Mhlasini, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called to the scene at around 09:42. Upon arrival, they found a brown Nissan SUV in a bush off the road. The 49-year-old female passenger explained to officers that she and her husband were traveling from Cottonlands to Mhlasini when she discovered women’s clothing in his car.

When she confronted him about the clothing, her husband allegedly threatened to kill both of them. As the argument intensified, he intentionally drove off the road, aiming to crash into a tree. However, the vehicle hit a large boulder instead, bringing it to a stop.

The woman suffered back injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The man, however, remained unharmed.
