Whatsapp Group admin shot dead for allegedly removing member

Police in Pakistan have announced that a man is being charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed the admin of a community WhatsApp group for removing him from the chat.

The victim, Mushtaq Ahmed, was reportedly shot on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan. The region has a history of violent conflicts.

According to police records, a man named Ashfaq has been charged with Mushtaq’s murder.

Mushtaq’s brother stated that the two had argued, leading Mushtaq to remove Ashfaq from the WhatsApp group. They later agreed to meet and resolve their issues, but Ashfaq allegedly showed up with a gun and shot Mushtaq.

The brother explained that Ashfaq was upset about being removed from the group.

Reports suggest that the easy access to guns, traditional tribal customs, and sometimes weak law enforcement contribute to such violent incidents in the area.
